April '09

The highlight of April was visiting Jocelyn! We flew to South Carolina (Columbia) to see her graduate from boot camp - then we were able to spend some time with her before she flew from S.C. to Alabama for the next step in her military training. Now she is at Fort Rucker, near Dothan, AL. Her new address is below if you would like to send mail to her.

We walked around downtown Columbia, got some ice cream and talked with Jocelyn. Her mom and stepdad also came for the graduation:

This is the convention center in Columbia, S.C.

After Jossy flew on to Alabama Haruko and I drove our rental car to Charleston - just a couple of hours Southeast to the coast. While there we went on a 2 hour walking-tour of historical down-town Charleston - the history was really amazing.

After the tour we had dinner and walked to the waterfront before driving back to Columbia.

Someone hit our rental car (and then ran) while we were in S.C. We are waiting to hear how much we have to pay (deductibles, etc.)

On the flight home...

Earlier in the month my sister called one day to surprise us and let us know that she was coming to California (from Washington)! Daniel and Crystal came along to help drive ;-)

On the first day of their visit we went to John's Incredible Pizza for all-you-can-eat pizza... and then time to play in the arcade!

On the weekend we took the kids to Great America in San Jose

I think I had more fun than the kids...

We also spent some time at a local park here in Stockton

Crystal enjoyed the Jacuzzi :-)

My friend Sean and went to Palo Alto one day to check out the electric Aptera car. Sean has a deposit on one and will be driving one soon (I want one!!)

One Saturday I took off on my electric bike and rode to Modesto where I recharged at the Modesto Kaiser before returning home (60 miles round trip - no gas!)
