August '08

Greetings Everyone. I hope all are well and all is well. It’s already been 2 months since we came back to California!
But, it didn’t take us long to acclimate - the nice weather is sooo welcome after the long, cold winter in Washington.
On Labor Day weekend we drove back to Washington to visit our families. We spent Saturday in Sequim first (David’s family). David’s brother, Dan, drove from Utah with his family - we had a great time at the mini-reunion. Then we drove to Redmond to spend Sunday with Haruko’s family. Monday was another long drive home. Jocelyn came with us (Yay!) and helped drive.

Across the Puget Sound, in Redmond, we visited Haruko's sister's family:

Micah took us on a tour of Microsoft:

On the way home we stopped in Ashland, Oregon for lunch and discovered that it is a cool "Hippy" town - with lot's of bicycles and vegetarian restaurants... think Berkeley!

Another electric scooter! (see below):

Mt. Shasta - back in California!

I (Dave) got a new toy this month - it’s a Vectrix electric Maxi-scooter. It’s been a dream of mine for a long time - to take advantage of technological advancements to save gas and reduce pollution. Now I commute to work and run errands around town using only electricity (produced by hydroelectric sources in California).
I can plug it in at home at night and ride during the day. But my employer (Kaiser Permanente) generously offered to allow me to plug it in while at work - cutting my
fuel costs to...$0.

One day the batteries were getting low so I stopped by Haruko's store (Sakura) for a quick charge:

Until next month!
